The
Story
of the Spaghetti
Dinner and Silent Auction
In
January of 2000 Incarnation Preschool and Mother’s Day Out opened its doors
with only 44 enrolled one, two and three year olds.
Meeting only on Tuesdays and Thursdays and expecting the school to grow,
Nan Miller (previous director) set out to have a fundraiser to raise money for program enhancements and
playground equipment that the tuition did not cover.
Armed
with her mother- in- law's spaghetti gravy and Italian spinach recipe she set forth
with the First Annual Spaghetti Dinner and Silent Auction.
Contacting local businesses for donated services to bid on, vendors for
food supplies and parents for donated gift basket items, our first year netted
$4,000.00! Mind you, she was very
impressed at the amount of money raised. Luckily,
several mothers stepped in to help and this auction has grown from there.
February
7, 2009 will mark the Tenth Annual Spaghetti Dinner and Silent Auction.
Every year we invite all parents to help run this event in many different
capacities. One of our greatest requests is for parents to donate new items that
are later arranged into gift baskets. We
have 8 themes to choose from including: Boy/Girl, Gardening, Italian/Mexican and
Stock the Bar, Spring Break, Home Improvement and Valentine.
Our
biggest investment has been the playground.
We have added over $15,000.00 worth of equipment, pavement and riding
toys from the large climbing/slide equipment that we started with.
You
have already seen letters regarding our first meeting, asking for volunteers to
help make phone calls to local businesses, and our new approach to collecting
items for the gift baskets. This is
all on a voluntary basis but please feel free to jump right in!
It is a great way to meet
other mothers and prepare for a fun night in February!
